We have more doctorally prepared faculty members than any other school in the West. As a pioneer in Canadian nursing education, we implemented the first Master of Nursing program in Western Canada in 1975, and began the first fully-funded Nursing PhD program in Canada in 1991.Position SummaryThe Research Coordinator supports the Associate Dean Research and the Faculty of Nursing research portfolio, including supporting and liaising with other research staff across Assistant Professor research teams and working closely with the Faculty’s Research Partner (RP) to complement their capacity.The Faculty of Nursing has a high percentage of Assistant Professors (42%), many of whom joined the faculty in the last 3 years. A key part of the RC role is to support Assistant Professors in establishing their research programs. The Research Coordinator contributes to the planning, development, and implementation of research support within the Nursing Research Office (NRO). The Research Coordinator will be the secondary point of contact for research questions from faculty members, and must have excellent communication and independent decision-making skills, and a strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. In cooperation with the Research Partner and the Research Administrative Services team, the Research Coordinator will train faculty members and their coordinators on how to prepare and monitor grant budgets, and how to complete research administrative tasks. Advice may be provided on how to obtain ethics and operational approvals, recruitment, data collection, and the orientation and professional development of research team members.Duties

• Provides advice related to research tracking systems, security procedures, and research methodology to the Faculty of Nursing; develops solutions to research-related issues at the faculty level
• Completes critical appraisal of research, applying knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods
• Develops and leads the annual survey on research data management
• Assists with knowledge dissemination, including writing and editing abstracts and reports as well as preparing presentations
• In collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Partner, coordinates and assists with communications related to the activities of the Nursing Research Office.
• Identifies research and development funding opportunities and contributes to the development of research grant applications and proposals, in cooperation with the Research Partner
• Takes the lead on training coordinators on PI’s research teams and faculty members on developing and monitoring research budgets
• Facilitate the development of shared coordinator roles by engaging with faculty to identify support needs, coordinating discussions on role structure, documenting key responsibilities, and guiding the process for position creation and outreach.
• Orients new research office team members to physical space and integrates new team members to the research office program routines and practices

Minimum Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree with completion of courses in quantitative and qualitative research methods
• Demonstrated research experience and training
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working on a team as well as independently
• Google Applications proficiency, and advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills in a Windows environment using MS Office applications (Word, Excel)
• Ability to understand basic accounting, including financial reporting and budgeting skills
• Demonstrated organizational and time management with strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree preferred
• Experience with computing systems used at the University of Alberta would be a strong asset (for example, Alberta Research Information Services (ARISE) and Peoplesoft Financials)
