Job description

At Rosebel Gold Mines N.V., we are currently seeking a dedicated Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Infrastructure Services department. As a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for directing and reviewing the integration of technical activities and projects related to mine works, including planning, geotechnical analysis, design, technical support during construction, reporting, and communications. Projects will primarily be related to mine infrastructure and tailing dams but may include water dams, mine waste rock dumps, foundations, other earthworks, and general mining projects as/when required.Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure employee safety and safe working practices as a key priority at all times.
  • Deliver project/civil/geotechnical engineering services and tailings engineering and management, boasting extensive design experience.
  • Responsibility for tailings management and associated projects. Manage responsibilities conversant with the Engineer of Record (EoR) to ensure the operation is fully compliant in all aspects of tailings management.
  • Responsible for all aspects of tailings geotechnical engineering guidelines.
  • Own and maintain tailings documentation (OMS, ERP – tailings, annual construction plans) – update and ensure annual reviews are performed.
  • Utilize engineering information to perform engineering design work, providing recommendations for project components including excavations, foundations, mine waste impoundments, borrow pits and associated infrastructure.
  • Provide leadership, both general and technical, within the infrastructure services department.
  • Provide technical review of study reports, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Provide input and review project information including source criteria, scope of work, procedures and requirements, diagrams and drawings, specifications, BOQ and other client-produced documents, to determine the approach and work to be undertaken, budgeted, scheduled and implemented.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced staff in completing work tasks that meet client and internal quality/efficiency expectations.
  • Lead and demonstrate through responsible project management leadership. Emphasize teamwork and look for continuous improvement in all individual tasks and project work.
  • Management of the TSF meetings (weekly construction, monthly water management). Coordinate internal and external reviews and audits pertaining to tailings and water facilities and the execution of recommendations and actions to ensure completion.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 8 years of related work experience with a minimum of 2 years of related leadership experience.
  • Experience with managing a team of engineers, QAQC technicians, contractors and contract management and cross-collaboration through departments to ensure the annual tailings management planning is executed as planned.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Mining, or another related field).
  • Proficiency in associated software with good knowledge of MS Office suite and MS Project
  • Experience in the use of engineering software, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Global Mapper and ideally slope stability programs (e.g., GeoStudio, RocScience).
  • Demonstrable background in all aspects of tailings geotechnical engineering guidelines.
  • Experience with GoldSIM water balance modelling ideal.
  • Budget preparation/management related to the tailing’s activities and Mine Infrastructure projects for both capital and operating activities.
  • The candidate that has experience working overseas and integrating with different cultures and nationalities will be considered favourably.
  • Knowledge of international standards related to tailings and water management (TSM of the Mining Association of Canada, Canadian Dam Association – CDA, Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management – GISTM, etc.)
