This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.
This position is based in Montreal.
Your role
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel and Executive Director, Business Law, as Legal Counsel III specializing in business law, you will provide solicitor services to various components of the Corporation, including management team, media components and institutional services.
You will apply your sound judgment and contract negotiation/drafting experience when providing opinions, you will analyse, draft and negotiate contracts for the procurement of goods and services including technology, engineering, and for new media and artificial intelligence business opportunities. Knowledge of public procurement will be an asset.
Your participation in committees and multidisciplinary working groups may be required for special projects. You will advise CBC/Radio-Canada’s operational sectors and may work with senior executives on sensitive and strategically important topics.
You may also have to supervise the work of external legal counsel who will be mandated in the context of transactional files or legal opinions.
Your interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to promote the use of the Corporation legal department and to maintain formal and informal relationships with the local legal community.
You will also participate in the development of strategies and objectives for the Legal Department.
You must stay current on legislation, doctrine and jurisprudence in the field of business law.
Requirements
We are looking for candidate with the following profile:
- Member of the Quebec Bar.
- Seven (7) to twelve (12) years of experience in business law, in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
- Strong ability conducting negotiations leading to complex agreements and excellent knowledge of business practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including speaking to customers and suppliers and leading sensitive discussions to conclude complex transactions or settle commercial disputes.
- Demonstrate leadership, be motivated, confident and have a professional attitude.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines.
- Be customer oriented and have team spirit.
- Attention to details with the ability to summarize information received and provide practical legal advice to clients with varying understanding of legal issues.
- Ability to deal effectively with external law counsel.
- Fluent bilingualism (French and English) spoken and written.
- Good knowledge of word processing software.
