The anticipated start date is November 15, 2024.The Senior Research Associate is expected to be intrinsically involved in research projects where they contribute, by way of their academic expertise and experience, to the projects directed by the principal investigator. The Senior Research Associate is able to independently carry out research in areas related to the development and further refinement of diffraction-based sensing, and of the development of nanomaterials for sustainable technologies, such as in agriculture and in cooling systems.Applicants should apply online at the link below and include a covering letter, curriculum vitae and three reference names with their contact addresses and phone numbers. Any questions regarding this position should be directed to Professor Cynthia Goh at [email protected].All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education – PhD in Chemistry.Experience – Minimum 5 years of experience in synthetic organic chemistry, and of nanomaterials, preferably at postdoctoral level. Experience in the development of low cost, optics-based instrumentation, and the development of accompanying assay for use in medical diagnostics in low resource settings. Experience in nanomaterials synthesis and applications. Strong understanding of intellectual property and the IP landscape for applications of nanomaterials. Experience with both academic and industrial research, and with managing intellectual property issues under both situations.Skills – Ability to carry out organic synthesis, purification and characterization, including the use of relevant instrumentation such as NMR and various chromatography and spectroscopy. Skills in the synthesis of nanoparticles, nanostructured materials and metal-organic frameworks, including the use of relevant characterization approaches and techniques such as atomic force microscopy, electron microscopy, XPS, XRD. Skills in optical design, alignment and data acquisition using home-built instrumentation.Additional skills required include: project management; leadership and interpersonal skills to assist in the guidance and implementation of the research project that is comprised of a multi-disciplinary and international team of scholars; interpersonal skills and ability to provide leadership and guidance to young students; dealing with and managing relationship industry partners.Closing Date: 10/22/2024, 11:59PM ET
