AST101H1: The Sun and Its Neighbours
Course Description: Scholarly discussion about our place in the Universe. Phenomena we see in the sky. What we know about the Sun, the planets and comets, and the formation of the solar system – and how we know it. What makes planets suitable for life. Finding out about the nearest stars and their planets. This course is intended for students with no science or engineering background.

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90
Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term: $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77
Sessional Lecturer Il, Long Term: $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer Ill: $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III, Long Term: $10,570.02
Qualifications: PhD or equivalent training in Astronomy, with experience in teaching university courses in astronomy required; teaching excellence, strong academic record, and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable. Applicants must submit a CV and a cover letter, demonstrating their commitment to pedagogic strategies that foster an inclusive learning environment and their plan to contribute to the University’s broader academic community, supported by examples such as relevant teaching experience, initiatives, or contributions to diversity and inclusion. Recent and relevant research experience will also be considered.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, test and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to course; addressing any issues of academic integrity that arise related to this course.
