Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:The Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025 for the following online synchronous course:BPM214H1F – Socially Engaged BuddhismExplores how Socially Engaged Buddhism has developed in response to global conversations on systemic oppression, climate justice, equity, decolonization, and trauma. We examine the roots of Engaged Buddhism in countries such as Vietnam, China & Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and India, and its transformation into a global movement. Themes include Buddhist environmental activism, and Buddhist protest movements, along with research on the application of Buddhist teachings in healthcare, education, business, and the criminal justice system.Enrolment Estimate: 100 studentsEstimated TA Support: 165 hoursClass Schedule:Lecture: Wednesdays 10:00 AM – 1:00 PMSalary:Sessional Lecturer I: $9,820.70Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term): $10,510.04Sessional Lecturer II: $10,510.04Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term): $10,760.28Sessional Lecturer III: $10,760.28Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term): $11,030.36Note: This course will be delivered in an online synchronous format. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the DepartmentMinimum QualificationsCompleted or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an area related to Buddhist Studies and/or the interactions between Buddhism and Psychology.
