Course description:

An introduction to the language for those with no prior knowledge of Italian. Students learn and practice basic rules of grammar and theme-based vocabulary, and they engage with various aspects of Italian culture.

Class schedule:

Section 0101: Mondays 1pm-3pm

Section 0102: Tuesdays 9am-11am

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025

Salary: (equivalent to an H course, 0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

Ph.D. in Italian Studies is required.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level is required.

Expertise in Italian cultural studies is required.

(Near-)native Italian language fluency is required.

Preferred qualifications:

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Description of duties:

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments,tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
