Course description

(Offered in English) An exploration of Italian fashion throughout the centuries, its presence in Italian literature (e.g. Dante, Castiglione, Leopardi), politics (e.g. Medici dynasty, fascism), movies (e.g. Roman Holiday, La dolce vita), television, and the influence of the “Made in Italy” brand globally. In this course, students have the option of participating in co- and extra-curricular learning experiences.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025

Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

Ph.D in Italian Studies is required. 

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university-level is preferred.

Mastery of the specific subject area of the course (Italian fashion [throughout history, in contemporary, pop culture, as costuming] Italian literature and theatre, Italian cultural studies, Experiential Learning) is required. 

(Near-)native Italian language fluency is required.

Preferred qualifications:

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Description of duties:

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments,tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
