The Amazon Payment Product team is responsible for developing the platform and applications used to introduce new and innovative payment methods to customers as well as support Amazon’s global CoBrand, Private label credit cards and the world’s largest rewards catalog, Shop with Points. The technology we build and operate varies widely, ranging from large scale Distributed Engineering. We are an agile team, moving quickly in collaboration with our business to bring new features to millions of Amazon customers while having fun and filing new inventions along the way. We innovate on behalf of our customers by partnering with business, financial partners, and internal teams in Amazon. We engineer business solutions to help our customers get unrivaled value out of their cards on Amazon’s websites. As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will take ownership over the software design, documentation, development, engineering approach, delivery, and support of payment solutions built natively in AWS. This is a critical program for Consumer Payments, with high leadership visibility, and an opportunity for delivering significant business value.

As a technical leader on the team, you will be responsible for guiding your team through the design, development, testing, and deployment of a range of products. You will help build software team roadmaps and develop best-in-class customer experiences. With sound technical acumen, excellent project management and communication skills, you will hire, build, and develop your team. As a true owner, you will be deeply interested in product design, innovating relentlessly on behalf of our customers. You will be a coach, mentor, and leader who creates a positive work environment. These high-visibility projects have a significant impact on Amazon’s profitability and growth. To meet these challenges, we are looking for a passionate, talented, and self-driven Software Development Manager – someone who innovates and loves solving hard problems.

Key job responsibilities

As a Manager here, you will head your team of high performing engineers to build, scale, monitor, and optimize the platforms that processes these business events. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing high volume and highly available services, strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
