Position Summary

Support Staff Full-time Reclassified Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements) 

The Student Engagement & Experience Programmer is essential in cultivating a vibrant culture of inclusion, leadership, and volunteerism on campus. This role involves active collaboration with student leaders, the Student Engagement team, and campus stakeholders to plan and execute programming that fosters a sense of connection, resourcefulness, and capability among students.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 2 days remote and 3 days on-site at Conestoga’s Skilled Trades campus, located at 25 Reuter Dr, Cambridge, ON N3E 1A9. Travel between campuses and off-site for programming and events is required.

Responsibilities

Core programming

  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers programming to create a vibrant campus culture and sense of belonging for all students, aligning with the department’s annual goals and objectives
  • Organizes and completes programming logistics activities such as scheduling, room bookings, work requests, etc.
  • Creates partnerships with staff, faculty, and community organizations to enhance programming tailored to student and campus-specific needs
  • Develops and delivers drop-in activities, events, workshops, and educational and co-curricular opportunities in various modes (in-person, virtual, etc.)
  • Designs programming based on student development theory and adult education principles to enhance students’ sense of connection, resourcefulness, and capability, ensuring alignment with departmental goals focused on inclusion and belonging
  • Plans off-campus excursions in accordance with college policies and procedures, completing and submitting paperwork related to risk management, student conduct, finance, etc.
  • Executes excursions at campuses, providing guidance and support to staff and student leaders
  • Monitors students on trips to ensure compliance with college policies and procedures related to safety, security, and student conduct

Student leadership and volunteer coordination

  • Completes administrative tasks related to student volunteers, such as stocking supplies, ordering food, and facilitating Co-Curricular Record recognition
  • Collaborates with and provides leadership to student staff in planning and delivering programming and events
  • Recruits, trains, coaches, and recognizes students and volunteers
  • Guides and advises student leaders on activities, including one-on-one and group mentoring, weekly outreach and awareness campaigns, and communication and outreach strategies
  • Collaborates with management to engage, train, and schedule student volunteers for orientation, campus events, and other programming as needed

Research, assessment, and promotions

  • Engages in ongoing research, assessment, and promotion to enhance the quality and participation in Student Engagement initiatives; monitors student trends to adapt programming to meet student needs
  • Maintains records and reports capturing annual successes, challenges, and recommendations
  • Creates campus-specific communications content with the Digital Engagement Coordinator
  • Follows guidelines related to data collection, integrity, privacy, and confidentiality and collects feedback for continuous quality improvement

Student engagement support and college initiatives

  • Provides event support for orientation, off-campus excursions, and department-wide initiatives
  • Promotes Student Engagement initiatives during college events on and off campus
  • Delivers workshops, information sessions, and presentations

Qualifications

  • Three-year diploma or degree in Education, Student Development, Business, Engineering, Technology, Social Science, Recreation & Leisure, Humanities, or a related field is required
  • Minimum three years of experience working with individuals in a community or educational development capacity is required; experience working in an educational setting is preferred
  • Experience advising, leading, motivating, and guiding student staff or volunteers
  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse and equity-deserving learners and ability to develop and facilitate workshops and discussions around leadership and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), discrimination, and anti-racism
  • Substantial knowledge of and practical experience working with event planning/managing and risk management processes is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply literature, research, institutional data, and theoretical frameworks to establish evidence and outcomes-based programs and services
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence skills to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external community stakeholders
  • Strong judgment, agility, and adaptability
  • Strong aptitude for written and verbal communication skills and commitment to client service
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills using Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to multiple locations
