Huawei Canada has an immediate 12- month contract opening for a System Security Research Engineer.About the team:
The Data and Privacy Protection Technology Lab is dedicated to ensuring user data flows while maintaining privacy. Researchers focus on key areas such as user identity authentication, data integrity, privacy protection, extensive model privacy assessment, multi-modal data identification, differential privacy, and federated learning. The lab supports deep research and encourages publications in leading journals. Research outcomes are applied across various Huawei product lines, including mobile phones, smart devices, and communications technologies.About the job:Research and analyze state-of-the-art system security and trusted computing technologies for consumer, heterogeneous (CPU/GPU/NPU-based), cluster computing architectures for high-performance computing use cases such as AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), novel access control systems, hardware-assisted securityDesign and implement technology prototypes for validating and demonstrating their feasibility, and support their integration into data centers, network equipment or consumer-facing devicesWrite design documentation and publish research results in well-known conferencesParticipate in industry analysis, do strategic planning of new features, and contribute to industry standards on platform security (e.g. TCG)Design and implement system level introspection framework for the new internal Operating SystemAbout the ideal candidate:PhD / Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer / Electrical Engineering or related fields, with a research mindset and preferably with 2+ years of industry-relevant R&D experienceDeep understanding of computer architecture and operating system conceptsProficiency with at least one system level programming language: C/C++/RustExperience and understanding in threat prevention technologies and techniques on Linux/Windows/Android operating systemsExperience with software security concepts such as:OS and hardware isolation (containers, hypervisors)compiler-assisted defenses (CFI, memory tagging, sanitizers)Experience with ML concepts, or use of ML for security purposes is an assetExperience with eBPF architecture and tooling development
