Introduction to Canadian Studies

Compensation 

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
  • In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. 

Duties 

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications 

1. Preference will be given to fourth year complete of an undergraduate program or degree in Canadian Studies, History (with a specialty in Canadian History, or Literature (with a specialty in Canadian literature).

2. Previous experience working as a teaching assistant in CANA 1F91 in the last 3 years will receive priority.

3. Demonstrated academic experience and teaching competence in Canadian Studies is an asset.

4. Knowledge of Canadian Studies relevant to the applicable course.

5. Excellent literacy, numeracy, seminar management skills, and computer skills (including MS Excel).

6. Experience with online student interaction an asset.
