Teaching-Stream Faculty Position in Management Science and Engineering

The Department of Management Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for one probationary position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to join our department with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered.

Applicants should hold a PhD or be near completion of their doctorate in management science and have a background in management, psychology, sociology, computer, or industrial/systems engineering or a related field. The successful applicant is normally required to have an engineering license for practice (full) or teaching (limited) in Canada, or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the University. Due to program accreditation requirements, all new faculty members teaching accredited programs are required to obtain the license within five years of initial appointment at the University of Waterloo, and maintain it during their employment at the University.

All applicants must have a proven ability or excellent potential for outstanding teaching in management science and engineering, have strong communication skills and be committed to professional development and community building. Demonstrated leadership and service experience and a track record in online curriculum development will be considered a strong asset.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in all our Management Science and Engineering programs, including undergraduate and graduate courses. The department expects the successful candidate to have strong potential for or experience in teaching both online and in-person courses, and be ready to contribute to the department’s service in this capacity.

The expected teaching load is 5 to 6 courses (or equivalent teaching tasks) per year depending on the level of service, with regular non-teaching terms of four-month duration every two years for other pedagogical elements, educational elements, and/or educational leadership in support of teaching.

The salary range is CAD $100,000 to $140,000, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Management Science and Engineering is a dynamic and growing interdisciplinary department in the Faculty of Engineering that has active research and teaching activities in Management of Technology, Information Systems, and Applied Operations Research. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Management Engineering, as well as master’s and PhD programs in Management Science and Engineering, including an online Master of Management Science.
