The Schulich School of Education in the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies at Nipissing University invites applications for a Tenure Track, Assistant or Associate Professor in Curriculum and Assessment. This position is located in North Bay, Ontario and will commence July 1, 2025.

The Schulich School of Education is one of six prestigious Schulich Schools that have been established in Canadian universities through the generous benefaction of Dr. Seymour Schulich. Teacher education in the North Bay area has enjoyed a rich history stretching back 115 years, beginning as the North Bay Normal School (1909), then becoming the North Bay Teachers’ College (1953), a Faculty of Education within Nipissing University (1973), and finally the Schulich School of Education (2010). With approximately 950 teacher candidates enrolled in the 2-year Bachelor of Education Consecutive program, the Schulich School of Education also encompasses a Concurrent Education program, an Indigenous Teacher Education Program, an Indigenous Language Teacher Education program, and two graduate programs (Master of Education, Ph.D. in Educational Sustainability). The Schulich School of Education is an innovator in the field of Curriculum and Assessment Education, an achievement aligned with and supported by the various Statements of Aspiration and Pathways identified in the six Commitments of Nipissing University’s 2023 strategic plan Pathways: Our Commitments to Water, Land, and People, and further supported by the Schulich School of Education’s Conceptual Framework.

Such an achievement also directly supports the Action Research component of our B.Ed. program, our graduate course offerings at the master’s and doctoral levels, our Indigenous education initiatives, and the various emphases of the Ontario College of Teachers outlined in their Accreditation Resource Guide.

The successful candidate will have:
– Demonstrated knowledge of educational theory (e.g., social-emotional learning, inclusive pedagogy, Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design for Learning), as reflected throughout the current K-12 Ontario Curriculum documents.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
– Curriculum design (e.g., lesson/unit/long-range planning);
– Assessment, evaluation, and communication (reporting) of student learning at the elementary and secondary school levels;
– Curriculum development (e.g., Ministry of Education policies and documents);
– Teacher as researcher (e.g., Action Research)

Certification as a registered teacher with their respective licensing authority or regulatory body (e.g., Ontario College of Teachers) is an asset.

Candidate qualifications include:
– Completion of a Ph.D. in Education or related discipline. For an assistant professor appointment, candidates close to completing a Ph.D. (i.e., ABD) will be considered.
– A demonstrated exemplary record of teaching at the elementary and/or secondary level(s) is required.
– For assistant professor level applicants, promise of establishing an active and productive research and scholarly profile.
– For associate professor level applicants, an already established research record and scholarly profile.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily at the undergraduate level within the Bachelor of Education program and may also have opportunities for graduate level teaching and supervision within our Master of Education and Ph.D. (Educational Sustainability) programs. The candidate will also be expected to engage in service activities within the Schulich School of Education; the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies; and the broader university community.

The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Collective Agreement.
