The Department of Sociology at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 01, 2027. We are seeking a candidate whose substantive research expertise speaks to contemporary matters that will foster undergraduate engagement. Areas can include, but are not limited to sport, violence, religion, matters connected to science and technology, social/digital media, and emerging trends in AI. Successful candidates will also show promise and interest teaching introductory sociology and social theory. We also welcome candidates who demonstrate interest in, or capacity for, providing students with experiential learning opportunities—such as community-engaged learning, applied or practice-based projects, and other forms of hands-on or field-based learning that connect sociological concepts to real-world contexts.
Experience and Education Requirements

While preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in sociology, ABD candidates with a dissertation defense date scheduled may apply. Please note that only applicants with a PhD (or ABD) in sociology will be considered for this position. The deadline for applications is October 01, 2026.

The Department of Sociology consists of 7 full-time faculty who teach in a thriving undergraduate program that emphasizes training in empirical sociological research. We have over 150 majors and a growing honours program.
