The Faculty of Education invites applications from scholars in the field of Lifelong Learning or Adult Education for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, commencing July 1st, 2025.

The Description

The applicant will hold (or provide evidence of near completion of) a doctorate in Education with a focus on research located in the field of Lifelong Learning/Adult Education, or in a closely related area. The candidate must be able to articulate a defined program of research in which they set out their previous research in this field as well as expected contributions to scholarship in this area. Applicants can note any circumstances which may have affected the development of a traditional scholarly trajectory.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise in the field of lifelong learning/adult education, qualifying them to teach a number of core and elective courses in the program. The ideal candidate will be able to engage learners in exploring historical and evolving debates about how adults learn in a range of different contexts, understand the significance of the strong social justice focus of the field, be familiar with a variety of research methods, and demonstrate a grasp of the range of theory that informs scholarship in the field.
Experience teaching in graduate adult education or lifelong learning programs, in both in online and face-to-face (f2f) contexts, and/or teaching adults in the workplace or the community would be an asset.

Applications should include a cover letter (maximum 5 pages), curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy (maximum 1 page), a statement overviewing the applicant’s program of research in lifelong learning/adult education (maximum 1 page), a sample academic publication, and contact information for three academic references. An additional letter of reference may be included from a referee who could speak to the applicant’s work experience if they have been employed outside a university in the field of adult education/lifelong learning. The Faculty will begin considering applications on April 14, 2025. The position will remain open until it is filled.
