The University of Windsor’s Department of Biology within the Faculty of Science seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of ecology, commencing July 1, 2026. We are seeking candidates whose research uses an integrative and interdisciplinary approach and who demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: plant or animal ecology, conservation genetics/genomics, evolutionary ecology, and/or climate change ecology. We encourage applicants with a research approach that involves field-based studies, and/or lab-based studies of natural systems.

The University of Windsor is a Canadian public, comprehensive research university enrolling 16,000 students, including 4,000 graduate students. Position details
The University of Windsor has a strong commitment to high quality research and offers an excellent research environment. The Department of Biology has 14 faculty and a large undergraduate and graduate student complement. The Department maintains a strong research and teaching profile with special expertise in Ecology, Evolution, Genetics, Genomics, Neuroscience, and Physiology, with undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences, and Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience (BCN). The department has a strong network of expertise in tropical to temperate to polar field environments, diverse study species, state-of-the-art infrastructure managed by faculty and staff, equipment to facilitate collaborative field studies, as well as on-campus analytical facilities in the areas of genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, flow cytometry, and imaging. In addition to being directly connected to the University of Windsor central animal care facility, the Department has a close association with the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER), with many faculty members cross-appointed to this research institute.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of expertise. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a productive and integrative research program, obtain external funding, and participate actively in graduate training and undergraduate teaching.
Compensation:
$78,762 – $128,762
This is within the 2026-2027 salary range for the rank outlined in Article A Table A.1 of the current Collective Agreement with the Windsor University Faculty Association. The compensation offered to the successful candidate will take into consideration the existing salary structure, the experience and available budget. A full range of benefits including a pension plan and medical benefits are available to the successful candidate.

• a statement of research interests (target length of 2-3 pages) which includes:
o an introduction to the proposed research program and its significance,
o a description of short and long-term research objectives,
o a list of contributions to date, including evidence of collaboration,
• a statement on teaching and training (target length of 2-3 pages) which describes teaching philosophy, provides evidence of teaching effectiveness, outlines HQP mentorship philosophy, a teaching dossier or portfolio demonstrating potential for or evidence of teaching effectiveness and excellence that will include sample course syllabi/outlines, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests (resources and templates for completing a teaching dossier can be found at https://www.uwindsor.ca/ctl/502/teaching-dossiers);
• three (3) samples of published research papers; and
• three (3) contacts for references. These referees will be contacted only for shortlisted candidates.
