Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track Professor of Teaching faculty position in Equine Field Service in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (https://wcvm.usask.ca/departments/large-clinical.php) at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM).
This position entails a 75% commitment to the equine ambulatory service of the Veterinary Medical Centre (https://vmc.usask.ca/) while providing supervision and instruction to undergraduate students, primarily those in the fourth or final year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. The successful candidate will also contribute to the department’s teaching responsibilities, including lectures, laboratories, and demonstrations in Years 1 to 3 of the DVM curriculum. The remaining 25% of the appointment will be available for other academic pursuits, administrative responsibilities, and related activities.
Applicants must hold a DVM degree or equivalent, as well as a post-graduate degree in a related field. The successful candidate will have an established interest in coaching and mentoring veterinary students and will be required to demonstrate progressive growth and professional development in teaching and educational pedagogy, consistent with the Standards for Promotion and Tenure. To be awarded tenue the successful candidate must be considered an expert in equine veterinary practice through certification by a recognized veterinary specialty organization, such as the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
The Equine Field Service currently includes one faculty Lecturer and two Clinical Associates and will be expanding. On-call and after-hours duties are shared among service members. Candidates must posses an appropriate Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association license (https://svma.sk.ca/become-a-member/dvm/) by the start of the appointment, must hold or be eligible to obtain a Saskatchewan driver’s license, and must have an acceptable driving record as determined by the University of Saskatchewan.
The WCVM (https://wcvm.usask.ca/) is Western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine and currently enrolls about 360 undergraduate students from three western provinces and northern jurisdictions, as well as approximately 200 graduate students. The University of Saskatchewan is a member of U15 Canada – an association of the country’s leading research-intensive universities – with a reputation for excellence in teaching and other scholarly activities. The university offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to more than 26,000, including over 21,000 undergrads and 4,500 graduate students.
Located within the WCVM, the Veterinary Medical Centre is a state-of-the-art AVMA- and AAHA-accredited hospital and referral centre. It offers specialty services and training in anesthesia; dentistry; dermatology; exotic, wild, and zoo animal medicine; internal medicine; medical imaging; nutrition; oncology; ophthalmology; radiation oncology; surgery; and theriogenology.
Salary bands for this position for the 2026-2027 academic year are:
• Assistant Professor – $113,527 to $135,535
• Associate Professor – $135,535 to $157,543
• Professor – $157,543 to $183,219
Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
