The Department of French, Spanish and Italian (FSI) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a term position of two (2) years at the rank of Assistant Professor in Italian Studies with a specialization in foreign language teaching, Italian literature and culture. A background in one or more of the following areas would be an asset: translation, Italian cinema, European studies, and Latin. The appointment will begin on July 1st, 2025. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Applicants will have or will be close to completion of a Ph.D. in Italian Studies and must have native or near native fluency in Italian, as well as a good command of English. They must demonstrate a record of excellence in research and teaching, including the ability to teach Italian as a second or foreign language. Experience in managing an undergraduate Italian program will be highly valued.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
• teaching load of 12 credit hours per academic year, which may be in multiple delivery modes;
• develop and maintain an active program of research in their domain of expertise;
• contribute to the education of students by enhancing course offerings in Italian;
• actively engage in the intellectual life of the Department of FSI, and its service needs;
• do outreach in the Italian community.
