jobsnearcanada.com

Building on our strengths in Archaeology and Biological Anthropology, the Department of Anthropology at Western University invites applications for a three-year limited-term (potentially renewable) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective January 1 2026, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department is seeking a talented scholar to support our undergraduate and graduate in-person teaching offerings in the field of Archaeology. Teaching areas are open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach courses that focus on material culture, applied and research practice, and/or Cultural Resource Management (including legislation and policy). Teaching duties will include some first and second year courses in biological anthropology in addition to the archaeology courses. Candidates who can demonstrate one or several of the following are encouraged to apply: the ability to teach courses on the archaeology of Ontario and the Great Lakes, a strong emphasis on decolonizing approaches and social justice in their teaching and/or research, experience of ethical engagement with Indigenous communities and knowledges in their teaching and/or research.

To be considered for this appointment, applicants must have a PhD in Anthropology or a related discipline completed by the start date of the appointment. Responsibilities will include teaching the equivalent of six half-year courses at the undergraduate level. Participation in graduate supervisions, examinations and service to the Department and the Faculty are also required. With the growing diversity of our student body, it is expected that the successful candidate will effectively demonstrate an ability to contribute to an inclusive learning environment for our students. They should demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level, provide evidence of research and teaching excellence, and have excellent oral and written communication skills. We seek applicants who have experience in student-centred undergraduate teaching, demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical best-practices, and demonstrate potential for graduate teaching and supervision. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to collaborate and contribute to the department’s service in a collegial manner.
