We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers to take up exciting Fellowship opportunities at the Mathematical Institute.
The prestigious Titchmarsh Research Fellowships provide an ideal opportunity for candidates to pursue an independent research programme in pure mathematics, and to join a large existing cohort of leading researchers on Fellowship programmes at the Mathematical Institute https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/people/research-fellowship-programmes/hooke-and-titchmarsh-fellowships
The Department is also advertising a similar fellowship scheme for Hooke Research Fellows in applied mathematics: https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/node/69373
Up to seven appointments will be made across the Hooke and Titchmarsh Fellowships in this recruitment. The Fellowships are full-time, and fixed-term for up to 36 months; applications for job shares or for part-time working to accommodate family circumstances will be considered.
Candidates will have research interests compatible with those of our current faculty in the algebra, combinatorics, geometry, history of mathematics, logic, mathematical physics, number theory, functional analysis, stochastic analysis or topology groups, or the Oxford Centre for Nonlinear PDE (OxPDE); you must clearly state at the start of your supporting letter which one of these research groups you feel is closest to your work. The successful applicants will be talented researchers, who have already produced excellent research during their PhD and in any postdoctoral positions. Securing a Fellowship will offer you the freedom to conduct your own research programme.
To aid the development of their academic profile, Fellows will be required to contribute up to three hours of teaching per week for the 24 weeks of each academic year to support the department, averaged over the period of the Fellowship to allow for extended visits elsewhere. (The exact nature of this teaching will be in accordance with departmental need as determined by the Head of Department, noting that the department may require you to teach in a college to provide cover for a member of faculty).
Candidates will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. They must show evidence of independence and the ability to undertake research of the highest academic standard, hold an outstanding record of papers published in major international journals (commensurate with career stage), and have a realisable and relevant research plan which would enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute. Additional information about the posts, and a full list of selection criteria, are available in the job descriptions.
We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women and from BME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type within the department.
Please direct informal enquiries to the Recruitment Coordinator (email: [email protected]), quoting vacancy reference 175806.
Applicants should read the job description before writing their application. You will be required to upload a supporting letter setting out how you meet the selection criteria (no more than 2 pages); a curriculum vitae of no more than 2 pages; a separate full list of publications with your top 3 papers starred; and a statement of research interests including a plan for research during the Fellowship (no more than 3 pages).
As part of your application you are asked to provide two references. Please note that only two reference letters will be considered. Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that reference letters are sent to [email protected] by the closing date. Referees should preferably not all be from the same institution. Whenever possible one referee should be the applicant’s current, or most recent, supervisor.
Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on Friday 22 November 2024 can be considered.
