This position has an initial appointment of 2 years.Location – This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. We work in tandem with the Research Partner Network, which provides the first point-of-contact for individual faculty members. There is also a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) listserv open to faculty members to opt-in and receive emails about grant opportunities etc. Each Faculty within the College also has a Vice-Dean or Associate Dean Research, who remains a key partner and key contact for faculty members within that Faculty.PositionThe newly formed Transforming Research for Social Impact (TRSI) Hub will build innovative methodological capacity and knowledge in interdisciplinary, community engaged, and socially responsive research. The position of Project Manager will play a key role in building and establishing the Hub and its research projects, wide-ranging collaborations, and affiliated research training activities. In collaboration with the Director and Advisory Board, the Project Manager will support the vision and mission of the TRSI Hub, provide strategic leadership in research planning and development, and assist the Co-Directors in developing and carrying out an organized program of interactive research planning, coordination, and evaluation processes. They will work closely with the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (Offices of Education and Research) as well as two affiliated institutes: The Community University Partnership (CUP) and the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (iiQM).DutiesLeadership – Organizational Planning and Management
- Manage the development of the Hub’s strategic research planning.
- Ensure effective and efficient operations of the Hub and its research activities.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse academic and community partners.
- Identify and engage with new opportunities for the Hub.
- Represent the Hub alongside or in place of the Director as needed.
- Foster and supervise staff.
- Lead teams of graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
- Provide financial management and budget development for the TRSI budget which is currently $350k over 2 years but is expected to grow with new external funding.
- Lead human resources activities, including hiring.
Research Development
- Develop and support applications for external funding.
- Coordinate and support research training activities across disciplines and sectors, including regular research methods workshops and seminars, integrated student training, development of new methodological tools.
- Supervise teams of graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
Research Communication and Knowledge Mobilization
- Work with interdisciplinary teams on research project development and implementation.
- Develop and mobilize strong communications about the Hub, building awareness of its research projects, and social and public impacts.
Engagement
- Maintain and expand the TRSI Hub network.
- Liaise with other methods-related Centres and Institutes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant social science field required, PhD preferred.
- At least three years’ experience in managing large research grants, projects, centers, and/or teams, preferably including community-engaged partnerships.
- Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods and methodologies.
- Experience using systems to track and manage research activities, timelines, and budget.
- Knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary, community-partnered, and training-centered project.
- Excellent facilitation and planning skills with the abilities to conceptualize effective strategies that can respond to changing work environments.
- Strong interpersonal, community, and public relations skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a range of data analysis software, such as R, Stata, NVivo, Quirkos, preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of university research services, financial, and human resources procedures, policies and agreements; specific knowledge of the U of A context is a bonus.
