Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department/School of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science at Toronto Metropolitan University [www.torontomu.ca] (formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for two positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. (Rank of Associate is open only to applicants who have tenure at their current post-secondary institution).
The positions are effective July 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.

These positions are in support of the launch and growth of our new Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Cyber Science, commencing in Fall 2026. The Cyber Science program is an innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate program that bridges technology, business, law, ethics, and human behaviour to prepare graduates for leadership in addressing the multifaceted challenges of cybersecurity. The successful candidate for the Associate Professor position will have achieved tenure at their current postsecondary institution, and once at TMU will provide academic leadership in program development and contribute expertise that enhances the program’s distinctive integration of technical, societal, and policy dimensions of cyberspace.
Areas of Interest
We welcome candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas aligned with the program’s core needs:
Secure Software Development
Network Systems Security
Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy
Human-Centred Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity Law, Ethics, and Governance
The successful candidates will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching duties will entail teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of students and/or curriculum development. The successful candidate will pursue a strong, innovative research program or creative activity that is externally funded and that produces cutting-edge, high quality results.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the appointment date.
In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:
A strong and sustained record of scholarly research that is active, innovative, and impactful (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, research funding, awards).
Excellence in teaching, demonstrated through teaching philosophy, curriculum innovation, teaching accomplishments, and (where available) evaluations.
Curriculum and program development experience, particularly in interdisciplinary or applied cybersecurity contexts.
Strong communication and mentoring skills, with demonstrated ability to supervise and inspire students.
For the Associate position: Academic leadership experience, such as leading research groups, program initiatives, or interdisciplinary collaborations.

This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association (TFA) [www.tfanet.ca]. The salary minima for the Assistant and Associate Professor ranks are $103,916 and $131,194 per annum respectively. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science currently consists of 31 faculty members, 10 staff and 5 postdoctoral fellows and is actively expanding, with multiple positions across various specializations. We offer 125 courses to undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and Doctoral) programs in Computer Science, Cyber Science, and  Cybersecurity to over 2000 students, as well as minors in Computer Science and Cyber Studies and service courses to another 2000 students.
