An Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for a UNE to develop further competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The nursing activities performed and level of supervision required is determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by professional associations, AHS and competency of the UNE. You will be guided by your education, experience and demonstrated skill level to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
One year of acute care experience and/or training within the past 2 years. (Students/Grad Nurses with preceptorship or practicum experience in oncology/hematology acute care will be considered equivalent). Acute care is defined as experience and/or training on an inpatient medical or surgical or emergency unit performing patient assessments, interventions, administering intravenous and oral medications, and providing patient education. Experience caring for oncology/hematology patients. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching above shoulder, and able to lift a minimum of 15 kg. Must be able to assist with safe patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Proficient written and verbal communication skills for safe patient/family care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in administering medications – oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intranasal, and topical). Experience working with elements of CoACT and collaborative care. Palliative certification and/or experience. Exceptional time management skills. Experience with Peripheral Venous and Central Venous Access Devices, and wound care. Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in professional growth. Experience in Connect Care. Open to feedback and can identify own learning needs.
