As part of our dynamic team, you can lead the way, as we continue our journey towards high reliability care!Right now we’re looking for a Unit Aide to work in our Maternal & Child Program.Hiring Rate Range: $24.723-25.212Hours of Work: 12 hour weekday and weekend shiftsEmployee Group: NOWUResponsibilities:Unit Aide duties within Birthing Unit:
- Ensure that the supply and delivery carts are stocked
- Work with the team to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks are completed
- Transportation of clean stretchers, carts, medical/surgical equipment/supplies, patients, specimen etc.
- Appropriate distribution and collection of supplies, equipment, instruments, trays, etc.
- Ensure that sufficient supplies are on hand for patient care
- Act as a liaison with SPD, stores, JCI and BU team members
- Ensure special order supplies are stocked and available
- Ensure all BU rooms are stocked and reset after each discharge
- Ensure triage supplies, carts and rooms are stocked
- Work co-operatively and constructively with all department team members.
- Help move the patient from BU to MBU including assisting with patient transfers
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment including cleaning equipment, ensuring equipment is functional and all attachments are connected and functioning.
- Notify manager/designate about broken equipment repairs or replacement and initiate the reporting and transportation of broken equipment to Biomedical Engineering or Maintenance as required
- Have knowledge of key clinical supplies used in the area
- Respond to other duties as assigned.
- Support OR readiness by assisting OR Environmental Attendant
- Ability to respond to Code White, Blue and Pink.
- Provide evidence of ongoing satisfactory attendance.
- Participate in quality assurance activities.
- Support other clinical areas in the Maternal and Child Program
Requirements:
- Completion of minimum high school grade 12 and able to produce a diploma of completion is required.
- CSAO or Sterile Supply Processing certificate preferred
- Understand and adhere to hospital policies and procedures including Infection Control policies, uniform dress code, cell phones and all other devices and
mandatory legislation such as; Human Rights Code, Confidentiality policies and health and safety procedures.
- Proficient in basic computer skills including email, MS Office
- Two years of recent related hospital medical/surgical supply experience preferred.
- Hospital experience preferred and knowledge of medical terminology is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to speak, read and interpret the English language (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated ability to use positive communication skills with patients, families and colleagues
- Knowledge of the Wilson site for delivery of urgent specimens or equipment
- Knowledge and understanding of the stores process for stock and non-stock items
- Knowledge and skill for transfers and lifts on a bed, stretcher and from a bed to wheelchair
- Maintain proper order for equipment and supplies
- Knowledge of safe handling of sharps and biomedical waste
- Ability to demonstrate understanding in order to carry out instructions in written, oral and/or diagram form.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and use problem-solving skills.
- Good working knowledge of medical supplies and sterilization.
- Able to handle stressful situations in a very fast-paced environment.
- IPAC precautions and associated disinfection of equipment and supplies
- Physically able to push stretchers, lift and store linen and surgical supplies
- Demonstrated ability to cope with long periods of time with physical demands such as walking, bending, pushing, and heavy lifting (lift 25-30 pounds repeatedly).
- Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
- Understand and demonstrate support for the hospital mission, vision and values.
