Yukon University

Through our Whitehorse campus and 12 community campuses across the territory, Yukon University (YukonU) honours and supports Yukon’s 14 First Nations, partnering and collaborating on many joint activities and initiatives. YukonU offers degree, diploma and certificate programming across a multitude of disciplines, including trades and university prep coursework. Research is a significant component of YukonU as well; we’ve achieved top spot for the number of paid student researchers, as compared to similar-sized institutions. Reconciliation and indigenization are paramount values at YukonU. Building relationships with, and responding to, Yukon First Nations needs through programming and research is at the core of our institution. Join us as we continue to build the North. Together we thrive!

The Yukon University Library

The YukonU Library is a bright, welcoming space at the heart of the university’s academic work. It provides a comprehensive range of services designed to support learning, teaching, and research for students, staff, faculty, and the public. The Library team is dedicated to helping users navigate information through information literacy workshops, reference services, in-person and online research help appointments, and citation assistance. Additionally, the Library offers support for Open Education Resources (OERs), guidance on copyright and Creative Commons, and assistance in identifying materials for course development. The Library collaborates with other areas of the university, including the Teaching & Learning team and the Research Services Office on workshops for faculty and staff. The Library at YukonU also serves as a gathering space, hosting visiting authors and events and sharing information and knowledge in collaboration with YukonU’s School of Liberal Arts and other departments across the university, YukonU’s Specialist in Creative Engagement and Expression, Ivan Coyote, the Whitehorse Public Library, and the Yukon Native Language Centre.

YukonU’s Academic Plan recognizes the Library as a key area in the university’s success. The plan states that the university will establish the university library as a place that inspires intellectual curiosity and exploration, supporting users to find, evaluate and share information efficiently and effectively.

The Position

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Academic and Research, and as a member of the senior leadership team and university Senate, YukonU’s University Librarian will lead the growth and development of a Northern-based and Northern-focused library that is aligned with YukonU’s strategic and academic plans and supports growth in research intensity.

The University Librarian will guide the library’s visioning and planning processes, manage library resources, and oversee the library’s services, programs and collections. The University Librarian will ensure the university library supports the learning experiences of students at all of YukonU’s campuses, and that the university provides high-quality library resources, learning opportunities and services in support of academic programming and activities and the research enterprise. Additionally, as a faculty member, the University Librarian will engage in scholarly activity at YukonU.

Importantly, the University Librarian will be a leader in Indigenization and reconciliation, and in equity, diversity and inclusion within their portfolio. Through their leadership, the University Librarian will inspire the sharing of information and knowledge in support of the university’s programming and activities and will connect YukonU to the broader community through the development of collaborative relationships with other libraries and archives, communities, governments and partners.
