BlackRock’s Legal & Compliance (L&C) Department protects the firm’s reputation and provides advice to, and oversight and monitoring of, BlackRock’s business. The department is focused on both understanding and advising on the impact of regulation to our business and on challenging, overseeing and monitoring business activities.
Overview:
You will be working as a junior lawyer primarily supporting BlackRock’s Canadian iShares ETF business, while also assisting our institutional and compliance teams. You will work closely with the L&C team and business colleagues to provide legal advice and compliance/regulatory support on a variety of securities law, investment management, corporate/commercial and other business matters.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide high quality advice and support on a wide variety of legal and regulatory issues.
Assist with all legal and regulatory aspects related to new fund launches and product maintenance, including product structuring and preparation of regulatory documents such as prospectuses, ETF Facts, trust agreements, and other material contracts and exchange listing documentation.
Preparation of continuous and timely disclosure documents, such as press releases, material change reports and management reports of fund performance.
Draft, review and negotiate client and supplier contracts.
Conduct research and comment on various regulatory proposals and consultations.
Assist with other legal and compliance function, including the enhancement of internal policies and procedures aimed at mitigating risk, meeting applicable regulatory requirements and/or improving operational efficiency.
Work with General Counsel, Canada and external counsel to manage corporate secretarial work and maintain regulatory documents.
Qualifications:
Lawyer with one to three years of experience, with a focus on asset management and/or securities law in a law firm or the legal department of a leading financial institution preferred.
Knowledge of Canadian securities laws, including National Instruments 81-102, 81-106, 81-107, 31-103 and 41-101.
Organized, accurate and detail-oriented. Capacity for working effectively on multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellence in work output.
Excellent analytic, written and oral communication and relationship building skills required.
Ability to function both independently and as part of a team, to take initiative, learn and collaborate with others.
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course is considered an asset.
For Toronto, Canada Only the salary range for this position is CAD$142,000.00 – CAD$190,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
